A YOUNG woman has handed over vital funds to the region’s air ambulance in memory of her dad.
Sophie Kelly, 22, held a fundraising night in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) after she was involved in a car crash along with her father, Kenneth Kelly, and then-partner, Scott Musgrave, on the A66, near Threlkeld, in 2011.
GNAAS was in attendance with two of its helicopters and treated the family at the scene.
Miss Kelly, who lives in Frizington, Cumbria, hosted the fundraiser at the Marchon Sports and Social Club in Whitehaven, on July 8, and raised a total of £3,160 for GNAAS.
She said: “I was so happy with how it all went, the support from my friends, family and workplace was amazing.”
Around 170 guests attended and the evening included a raffle, auction, band, DJ and buffet.
Miss Kelly, an administrator at Morson Projects, said: “I was very nervous at how the night was going to go as the Marchon is a very big room to fill but we did it.
“We sold that many raffle tickets that my brother had to run to the local shop and buy some more.”
Prizes from the raffle included Manchester United vs Manchester City tickets, Oxley spa day, a recording studio session and a range of hampers and vouchers.
Her dad, Mr Kelly, passed away in November last year, and was a big supporter of the charity.
Miss Kelly has previously raised £800 for GNAAS by taking on a series of sporting events and bake sales.
She said: “My dad was all for the air ambulance so I decided to carry on fundraising and supporting them. It’s nice to do so in his name.”
