Weekend round-up: Busiest day of the year so far

Some of the incidents were:

11.49am, Saturday – We were called to Bellingham, Northumberland, where a motorcyclist had collided with a minibus carrying a party. The rider, 65-years-old, from Whitley Bay, sustained serious chest and leg injuries after going underneath the bus. He was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

1.45pm, Saturday – A man in his fifties was airlifted from Derwentwater, near Keswick, after his motorbike was involved in a collision. He had sustained serious chest injuries and was treated on scene by the GNAAS doctor and paramedic team working alongside North West Ambulance Service personnel. He was then flown to hospital in Preston, where he arrived 25 minutes later in a stable condition.

4.48pm, Saturday – We were called to Hurworth, near Darlington, where a 30-year-old man was injured in a head on collision between two cars. He had to be freed from the wreckage and had sustained abdominal and chest injuries. He was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

12.40pm, Sunday – GNAAS’ Pride of Cumbria aircraft and crew were called to Patterdale, Cumbria, where a woman in her forties, from Long Eaton, Notts, had sustained a leg injury in an isolated location. With the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team busy on another mission, GNAAS was asked to attend the lady, who was treated on scene before being flown to a road ambulance for her onward transportation to hospital.

4.15pm, Sunday – A male in his twenties was airlifted from Killhope, County Durham, after a motorbike crash left him with arm injuries. The Consett man was treated on scene by GNAAS’ doctor and paramedic team before being flown to hospital in Carlisle. The flight took 15 minutes and the patient was stable on arrival.
