Weekend mission round-up


Some of the incidents attended by the Great North Air Ambulance Service over the weekend:


Sunday, 1.15pm: A man from Crosby, near Liverpool, was airlifted from the A686 near Hartside Cafe, Cumbria, after two motorcycles collided. The man, believed in his thirties, had sustained serious head injuries. The GNAAS doctor and paramedic crew from the aircraft joined with North West Ambulance Service crew and BASICS rapid response doctors on scene. The patient was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The flight took 18 minutes and the patient arrived in a stable condition.

Sunday, 11.45am: A female motorcyclist aged 30 was airlifted from Lingdale, Redcar and Cleveland, after a coming off her bike at speed. She sustained abdominal injuries and was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for further treatment. The flight took five minutes and the patient, from Seaton, was stable on arrival.

Sunday, 8.10am: A motorcyclist from Batley in West Yorkshire was flown from West Tanfield, near Masham in North Yorkshire, after sustaining serious back, arm and chest injuries in a collision. The man, in his twenties, was treated on scene by the doctor and paramedic team from GNAAS, working alongside Yorkshire Ambulance Service crews. He was then flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The flight took 13 minutes and the patient was stable on arrival.

Saturday, 12.30pm: A motorcyclist from York was airlifted from Malton, North Yorkshire, after sustaining serious back and pelvic injuries in a collision. GNAAS flew a doctor to the scene and the crew worked alongside Yorkshire Ambulance Service in stabilising the 31-year-old patient before he was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for further treatment. The flight to hospital took 15 minutes and the patient was stable on arrival.

Saturday, 12.25pm: A young girl was airlifted from Matterdale Common, near Great Dodd, Cumbria after becoming unwell while walking with a party of Air and Army Cadets. The girl had become very distressed and short of breath and was flown down the mountainside to an awaiting road ambulance.
