Community relationships are so important for us and we’re always looking at how we can reach out to the young and families across the region and so ‘Miles the Bear’, our charity mascot, and a number of volunteers have been out and about visiting primary schools in Cumbria since January.
At these talks the pupils have the chance to meet Miles and our friendly volunteers and learn all about our life-saving services. With a short animation explaining to the youngsters what we do as an air ambulance service, pupils even get to wear a genuine GNAAS flying suit and helmet. It offers a little excitement and brings something different to the children’s PSHE learning.
We’ve received a very warm welcome from every school we have visited and we’re looking forward to keeping in touch with these school communities some of whom have even chosen to fundraise for us, following our talks.
As a result of the success of the campaign in the Cumbria region, we are planning to contact primary schools in the North East later in the year.
