Two women were airlifted after a traffic collision at the crossroads, Kinninvie, Teesdale, yesterday.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called at 1.40pm to the hamlet, where a hatchback and a 4X4 had collided. The 4X4 had gone on to collide with a house, but the male driver was said to be extremely lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries. He was treated on scene.
The two female occupants of the car, both 44-years-old, were treated on scene by the crews of two GNAAS aircraft, working alongside North East Ambulance Service paramedics. Fire and rescue teams and police were also on scene.
The women had sustained multiple, serious injuries, including back, neck and pelvic injuries. They were both flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The flight took ten minutes and the patients both arrived in a stable condition.
