A teenager has been airlifted to hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a road crash at Metal Bridge, north of Carlisle. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) assisted ambulance teams from both sides of the border on October 11. The man was anaesthetised at the scene by the aircrew doctor before being flown to Newcastle’s RVI in a critical condition.

The man was anaesthetised at the scene by the aircrew doctor before being flown to Newcastle’s RVI in a critical condition. The flight took 25 minutes; by road this would have taken around an hour and 20 minutes.
