A 71-year-old man from Ravenglass was flown to hospital with serious injuries after a collision between a motorcycle and a car this morning
The Great North Air Ambulance’s Pride of Cumbria aircraft and crew were called into action at 10.30am.
They joined a road crew from North West Ambulance Service and a BASICS rapid response doctor.
Despite testing weather conditions, the man was able to be flown to hospital because of the aircraft and pilot being instrument flight approved, which is uncommon on air ambulances but comes into play when visibility is restricted.
The man had sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
The flight took 30 minutes and the man arrived in a stable condition.
