Man airlifted from Lake District fell after mountain biking accident


A man was airlifted from a fell in the Lake District after he took a fall while mountain biking. The 61-year-old man, from Cockermouth, sustained serious chest and abdominal injuries when he fell at Ullock Pike.

The 61-year-old man, from Cockermouth, sustained serious chest and abdominal injuries when he fell at Ullock Pike.

He was treated at the scene by both Keswick and Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Teams and GNAAS doctor and paramedic, before being flown to the major trauma centre at Newcastle’s RVI. The flight took 27 minutes.

Earlier in the day, we were called to Langdale after a 66-year-old woman had badly fractured her leg while out walking.

She was treated at the scene by Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team and GNAAS doctor and paramedic, before being flown to Royal Preston Hospital. The flight took 21 minutes.
