A MAN was airlifted to hospital after his car collided with a tree on the A696 near Ponteland on Friday (June 26). The man, in his late 60s, had sustained serious leg, chest and pelvic injuries in the collision. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) anaesthetised the patient before loading him into the aircraft.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) anaesthetised the patient before loading him into the aircraft. They worked alongside the fire and rescue service, police and North East Ambulance Service.
The patient was then flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The flight took seven minutes and he arrived in a critical condition.
