Lakes heart attack victim rescued by air ambulance

A joint rescue mission was launched between the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) and Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) after a 68-year-old man collapsed on a Cumbrian fell. Due to poor weather conditions, the helicopter was unable to land near to the patient on Bowfell, Langdale, on October 31, and had to position on the valley floor while the medical crew and LAMRT continued on foot. Following assessment, it was found the 68-year-old man was having a heart attack and he was treated and stabilised at the scene. The weather had deteriorated further and the teams carried the man to the valley floor. Once in the helicopter, he was flown for immediate specialist treatment at the cardiac centre of the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

Once in the helicopter, he was flown for immediate specialist treatment at the cardiac centre of the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. The flight took 20 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.
