A round-up of incidents from the weekend in Seatoller, Greystoke and Leegate.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called on Saturday, at 9.45am, to Seatoller, the Lake District, where an eight-year-old boy had fallen over while running down a hill and sustained a serious head injury. The boy, believed to be from Arnside, was assessed and treated by the GNAAS doctor-led aircrew alongside North West Ambulance Service paramedics before he was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), Newcastle. The flight to hospital took just 20 minutes, the same journey by road would have taken around two hours and ten minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.
On Saturday afternoon, at 2.20pm, GNAAS was called to Greystoke, near Penrith, where a man had fallen from his bicycle at a time trial event. The man, believed to be in his 50s and from Kirkbride, suffered serious head and arm injuries in the fall. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew assessed and treated the patient before he was flown to the RVI in a flight that took just 25 minutes, this same journey by road would have taken around one hour and 50 minutes. He arrived at hospital in a stable condition.
Yesterday, at 11.40am, GNAAS was called to Leegate, near Cockermouth, where a horse had fallen onto a woman causing leg and shoulder injuries to the patient. The woman, believed to be in her 40s and from Dean near Workington, was assessed and treated for her injuries by the GNAAS doctor-led aircrew. She was loaded into the helicopter before being flown the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, in just 12 minutes. She arrived in a stable condition.
