A team working on a major motorway upgrade has raised funds for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
As part of Carillion and Morgan Sindall’s joint venture to expand a stretch of the A1, the Leeming to Barton project team, have handed more than £550 to the life-saving charity whose aircraft cover the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
The team have held weekly cake sales at their Leeming office and 80 members tuck in to sweet treats in exchange for a donation to the charity. They also use the ink cartridge recycling service that GNAAS provides which generates more ongoing funds.
As part of their recent cheque handover, they held a collection in memory of colleague, Dave Butler, who passed away earlier in the year.
Sharon Searle, from the A1 Leeming to Barton team, said: “We chose to support GNAAS because they are a vital life-saving charity. We have really enjoyed our fundraising and are all looking forward to raising more much-needed funds.”
Diane Walker, of GNAAS, said: “All of the cash raised will go towards our aircraft and medical supplies across the region. We want to thank the team for their partnership and continued support, without it we could not keep our air ambulance up in the air.”
