The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to a collision between two vehicles on the A595 at Newby Cross, near Carlisle, yesterday. The collision had left two women dead and others seriously injured.

The collision had left two women dead and others seriously injured. The GNAAS doctor-led trauma team treated a three-year-old boy for serious head, chest and pelvic injuries.
The team anaesthetised the boy and gave him a blood transfusion before he reached hospital.
He was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where his condition was described as critical but stable.
A GNAAS spokesperson said: “We’d like to offer our most sincere condolences to all those affected, and our gratitude to our fellow emergency workers for their co-operation on scene.”
