A football club held a fundraising night for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) after a player was injured in road crash.
Brampton Football Club held the race night fundraiser at Brampton Golf Club on March 5 with around 130 people attending.
The fundraiser was in aid of GNAAS after a Brampton FC player, Aaron Dickson, was involved in a road traffic accident in which three others were injured, including two footballers from Longtown Football Club, on January 10.
Mr Dickson was taken to hospital by road ambulance along with three others who were also in the car, including Andy Bell and Paul Boguszynski of Longtown Football Club. The car that they were travelling in left the road at around 4.15am, hitting railings and trees.
Mr Boguszynski was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, where his condition deteriorated to the point where he urgently needed specialist treatment in Newcastle.
GNAAS was called to transfer him to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, and to provide ongoing care en route. The on-board doctor and paramedic stabilised the patient before loading him onto the aircraft and accompanying him on the 20 minute flight.
Charlie Charlton, Brampton FC manager, said: “All three players are recovering, Aaron is now almost fully recovered and is doing well. Andy is still in recovery but is improving every day.
“Paul is now paralysed from the waist down as a result of the accident and is starting to come to terms with it all.”
Mr Charlton organised the fundraising night in aid of GNAAS in the aftermath of the incident.
He said: “The charity night was an absolutely brilliant night. It was very successful, raising £500 for such a vital cause. GNAAS is a brilliant charity and this money will hopefully help.
“No one will ever know if or when they will need them, it is good to know they are there if we ever do.”
