The collision involved a heavy goods vehicle and a car at 7.45am. Responding from the charity’s Langwathby base, the aircraft and crew were on scene within 11 minutes of lifting.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was freed from the vehicle before he was anaesthetised by the doctor-led crew. The patient was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in 22 minutes where he arrived in a stable condition.
GNAAS worked alongside North West Ambulance Service and Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service at the scene.
