A MAN in his eighties was airlifted to hospital after he was involved in a collision between two cars. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called near to Windermere to assist North West Ambulance Service at 12:20pm on Saturday (August 6). The Guardian of the North was dispatched from Durham Tees Valley Airport as the Pride of Cumbria air ambulance was already at another call-out. The man was anaesthetised at the scene before the doctor-led trauma team performed roadside surgery and tranfused blood.

The man was anaesthetised at the scene before the doctor-led trauma team performed roadside surgery and tranfused blood. He was then flown to Royal Preston Hospital within minutes where he arrived in a critical condition.
