A ELDERLY driver has been taken to hospital after crashing into a tree following a suspected “medical episode”. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Crook, County Durham, at 15:23pm yesterday, after reports of a vehicle that had left the road and crashed into a tree. The 67-year-old driver is believed to have suffered a medical episode and he was assessed at the scene by GNAAS using a portable ultrasound unit; a piece of equipment newly introduced onto the aircraft earlier this year. The patient was unhurt in the collision but was transported to the University Hospital of North Durham by road for further tests.
