At 6.45pm yesterday the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Littletown, to the east of Durham, where a 40-year-old woman had been struck by a car while out walking a dog.
At 6.45pm yesterday the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Littletown, to the east of Durham, where a 40-year-old woman had been struck by a car while out walking a dog. She had sustained severe head and abdominal injuries.
North East Ambulance Service staff were already on scene performing CPR when the GNAAS doctor and paramedic arrived in the charity’s rapid response vehicle.
GNAAS now carries blood on both its aircraft and road vehicles, and after anaesthetising the patient, the charity’s medical crew performed a transfusion on the roadside. She was then taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. She was critical on arrival at the hospital.
