A 16-year-old cyclist suffered a serious head injury at West Allerdean, near Berwick, yesterday (June 11).
Th Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the scene at 5:45pm.
The male teenager was treated by the GNAAS team before being flown to the major trauma centre at Newcastle’s RVI. The flight took 18 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition. By road this would have taken around 1 hour and 18 minutes.
Earlier, GNAAS was called to Haltwhistle in Northumberland after road crews diagnosed a man having a heart attack.
The 62-year-old was flown for specialist cardiac treatment at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. The flight took 10 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition. By road, this would have taken around 51 minutes.
