A CRASHED paraglider was airlifted from Howgill Fells, near Kirkby Stephen, at 12.20pm today. The Great North Air Ambulance Service’s (GNAAS) Pride of Cumbria was first at the scene and landed around 30 metres away from the patient. The man, believed to be in his fifties and from Penrith, was treated by the GNAAS doctor and paramedic crew for serious back injuries. A North West Ambulance Service paramedic crew then assisted with placing the man onto a scoop stretcher before carrying him to the waiting aircraft.

A North West Ambulance Service paramedic crew then assisted with placing the man onto a scoop stretcher before carrying him to the waiting aircraft. The patient was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough within 10 minutes where he arrived in a stable condition.
