A COUNTY Durham golf club has handed over £6,000 to the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
South Moor Golf Club in Stanley raised the funds from a lady captain’s charity golf day which attracted 27 teams, as well as a donation of £2,500 from Amec Foster Wheeler Group Ltd.
Ms Tate, the club’s 2016 lady captain, said: “This is a great cause and the only emergency service that is self-funded. You never know when you might need the air ambulance.”
The cheque was topped up by a series of events during the season and Janet Hume, public liaison officer at GNAAS, said: “The effort that the ladies have put in has been phenomenal.
“The money raised will go towards maintenance of the aircraft, fuel and specialist drugs and equipment. Every penny will help to provide the service which saves hundreds of lives every year.
“It is a massive achievement for a club to raise such a great sum and we want to thank them for their support.”
The course at the South Moor club was designed by a Yorkshireman, Alister MacKenzie, who also created Augusta National, permanent home of the US Masters, one of golf’s four major tournaments.
