Tens of thousands of pounds have been raised for GNAAS after its biggest ever squad took on the 2012 Great North Run.
Much of the money has yet to come in but early signs show that the charity’s 126 runners will raise enough to pay for more than ten missions.
This year, the charity registered more runners than ever before, and has already opened its waiting list for the 2013 event.
Participants ran the 13.1 miles course and many came back to the designated Charity Village for drinks and snacks after completing the course, which runs from Newcastle to South Shields.
Janet Hume, of GNAAS, said: “We would just like to thank everyone who was willing to take on this challenge for GNAAS. Although it is early days, it is already looking like we have made a significant sum for the charity.
“The money will be spent keeping the aircraft flying across our region, and our runners ought to be proud that they have contributed to this life-saving service.”
Although registration is not yet open for the event, GNAAS is accepting names onto its provisional squad sheet for the 2013 run. Anyone interested should contact Janet on 01325-487263 or email janet@greatnorthairambulance.co.uk
