The Mayor of Morpeth and her friends have taken on an abseil in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
Alison Byard, Joanne Brown and Sarah Farooqi made the 150ft descent at Cathedral Quarry in Coniston, the Lake District, on July 11.
Mrs Byard, who has recently been elected as mayor, has picked the GNAAS as her chosen charity. This challenge marks the first in various fundraising ventures planned for the next year.
Full-time artist and mother of two, Mrs Farooqi, 46, said: “My only abseiling experience was down the sports hall wall at school. Now, I am 30 years older. I thought what could possibly go wrong?!
“I only recently discovered that GNAAS were entirely self-funded. This shocked me quite a lot and really enforced why I wanted to raise money for them.”
