Each time our helicopters lift off from the ground and our team tend to those in need, it costs our charity thousands of pounds, every penny of which is entirely charity-funded.
Operational helicopters and state-of-the-art equipment come at a price, but when someone’s life is on the line, the value of our service is priceless.
That’s why the fundraising efforts of our supporters are crucial to our charity’s operations; every coin dropped into a donation bucket, every cake sold at a bake sale, and every event hosted in our name contributes to our life-saving mission.
So, let’s take a look at July’s wonderful goings on, courtesy of our incredible supporters…
Teach em’ while they’re young
The lovely youngsters at Caldbeck and District Young Farmers Club decided to raise a couple of quid for our charity by hosting an 80th birthday dinner, featuring their very own raffle and auction.
And guess what? These efforts generated £2,400 for our life-saving service. Now that’s how to celebrate a birthday!
Critical care concert
Helen Baillie is one of our very active volunteers, so when she was asked which charity her choir should raise funds for, she very kindly suggested GNAAS.
All branches of Contemporary Community Choirs gathered for the group’s bi-annual concert, attracting over 160 people.
And wow, they must have impressed the audience, because their wonderful vocals generated a whopping £7,305… now that’s something they should be proud of.
The fabulous five
15 July was the start of Cockermouth Charities Week, and we were lucky enough to have five of Cockermouth’s finest establishments fly the flag for our charity.
Throughout the week, Tony Harrison, The Linden Tree, Main Street Fisheries, Fyne Fish, and the Lakes Home Centre each found a way to encourage shoppers to donate and keep our helicopters responding to people in Cockermouth and beyond.
The lovely team at Linden Tree even donated a £50 voucher which they raffled off! These little gestures all make a huge difference.
Critical CAR team
We’re massive fans of all vehicles, whether they have rotor blades or wheels. In fact, we host our very own Classic Car and Bike nights at our Teesside base and have built up a wonderful petrol-headed community over the years.
That’s why we were delighted to hear car enthusiasts from Cumbria had decided to organise their very own. Their first meet-up generated £289, and that’s not a bad chunk of money to generate from a hobby!
We can’t wait to see Cumbria’s classic car community grow.
Strike!
The lovely lot at Tynemouth Bowling Club raised a generous £445 in July, so volunteer Bob popped over to see them.
In fact, this was Bob’s first-ever cheque presentation, so it was quite a special moment for him – thanks for looking after him, guys!
Silver linings
Sadly, the team at Skiddaw Forest Shooting Syndicate had to close their doors earlier this year, due to the lease on their fields not being renewed.
£1,200 was left over in the firm’s bank account… and they donated the entirety to us – these funds will save lives.
Just as they were about to head off, our helicopter landed and they had the chance to have a full tour of our little base in Langwathby courtesy of paramedic Mike.
They’re gonna’ need physio
The committed team at Penrith Physio took on the Everest challenge a couple of months back… and July was the month they rounded off their fundraising and presented us with a cheque.
A mega £3,301.05 was raised for our service, and they’re already planning their next challenge for our service! We think they need a little rest first.
Double it, triple it, quadruple it
The lovely little lot at St Paul’s Catholic Primary School worked some fundraising magic and managed to turn £5 into an impressive £275.50 through a range of fundraising activities.
How could you not donate to those cute lil’ faces? Huge thanks to the students and teachers who showed commitment to our charity.
Heading overseas
The Isle of Man is notorious for its annual TT races, and for the past couple of years, our critical care team has had the pleasure of helping out the ambulance service in the case of any accidents.
For the second year in a row, Ramsey Baptist Church raised a spot of money for us by offering free teas, coffees, and sweet treats with the option to donate – all the funds generated were given directly to our service.
We had a lovely little catch-up with the volunteers there, and we can’t wait to see what they do next.
Phew! July was certainly a busy month for our supporters… but let’s make August even better. If you’re feeling inspired, it’s time to kick-start your fundraising activity.
