A 5-year-old boy was airlifted from the A66, near Warcop on Friday (16th), after a serious road traffic collision, involving a car and a HGV.
The Pride of Cumbria, based at Langwathby was called to the scene after land paramedics had begun assessment and had requested the support of the helicopter.
The aircrew assessed and treated the mother and the 5-year-old on scene, before flying him to the Paediatric Major Trauma Centre at James Cook Hospital, in Middlesbrough, with a head injury.
The North West Air Ambulance transported the mother.
The father and daughter were taken to the same hospital by road.
The 5-year-old boy had sustained a potentially serious head injury and was serious but stable on arrival.
