The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) attended several incidents over the weekend. Here is a brief round-up:
Sat 14:35pm: We were called to reports of a motorcyclist trapped under a car on A592 Rayrigg Road, near Windermere. On arrival at the scene, the aircrew doctor and paramedic team worked alongside NWAS paramedics and treated a male, from Peterlee, County Durham, for pelvic and lower limb injuries. He was then flown to Royal Preston Hospital in 15 minutes and arrived in a serious but stable condition.
Sat 15:25pm: We were called to a 16-year-old male who had fallen off his bike on a cycle track in Darlington and sustained serious head, face and neck injuries. His location was inaccessible by road and so one paramedic ran to the patient’s aid while another commandeered a cycle and rushed to the scene. The GNAAS helicopter landed close to the patient and the GNAAS trauma crew and NEAS paramedics anaesthetised the patient before flying him to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough in seven minutes. He was in a serious but stable condition upon arrival at hospital.
Sun 11:10am: We were called to a woman who had fallen from a horse in Ovingham near Prudhoe. She was reported to have suffered a head injury and was unconscious. The GNAAS trauma team anaesthetised her and she was flown to Newcastle RVI for treatment in six minutes. Her condition was serious but stable upon arrival.
