The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) treated two South Shields patients at the weekend.
On Sunday (8th), around 9:00am, a 17-year-old male was given emergency treatment for life-threatening injuries in South Frederick Street, South Shields.
It is reported that he tripped and fell into a sun bed and fell down stairs.
The doctor and paramedic team from GNAAS and crews from the North East Ambulance Service treated the male at the scene before he was flown to the RVI in Newcastle in a stable but critical condition. The flight took five minutes.
Later that day, at around 4:30pm, a 26-year-old female was thrown and then trampled by a horse at an equestrian event in Tow Law, County Durham.
Road paramedics had begun treatment on scene and the female, who was from South Shields, was flown to the RVI in Newcastle with multiple serious injuries. The flight to hospital took seven minutes.
A 79-year-old man was involved in a road traffic collision at Wetheral, near Carlisle on Friday (6th).
The patient was assessed by the doctor-led trauma team and North West Ambulance Service paramedics before being flown to the RVI in Newcastle with chest injuries. The flight took to hospital took 20 minutes.
