People with a sweet tooth have just a few days left to buy a ticket for the chance to win a two-feet long egg that weighs 4kg in aid of charity.
Barnard Castle business, Chocolate Fayre is helping to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) by donating the enormous egg worth around £200 in support of the cause.
Husband and wife team, Kenny Walker and Sarah Wall took on Chocolate Fayre in November 2013 and decided to support the local charity at the start of the year.
Mr Walker said: “We chose the air ambulance as one of the charities which we would like to support because we think the service benefits everybody in the dale and it seemed to be one cause which any of us might need at any time.
“It’s an essential service for many isolated places and one I have seen in action many times myself.”
The egg has already attracted more than 350 ticket sales. “However people have donated much more than that and offered far more than the £1 ticket price. The egg itself has caused quite a stir in our shop and many people have dropped in to buy a ticket and to support the local air ambulance,” said Mr Walker.
GNAAS does not receive any government or lottery funding and relies entirely on public donations to keep its highly skilled crew and aircraft in the air.
Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, said: “It’s great to hear of the support from locals and visitors alike and we are grateful to every single person who has donated to the air ambulance. We’re looking forward to our partnership with Chocolate Fayre and want to thank them for their continued support.”

GNAAS volunteer, Ed Kirkham, will draw the lucky ticket winner on Friday 18th April.
