Biker airlifted after colliding with car at Newby Bridge

The Pride of Cumbria was called into action when a biker collided with a car at Newby Bridge, Cumbria.

The man, believed to be in his late twenties and from Windermere, sustained chest, back and possible pelvic injuries in the incident, which happened around 3pm on Sunday.

Because of the nature of his injuries, and because the Great North Air Ambulance Service carries doctors on board, the charity was called in to assist the North West Ambulance Service.

The doctor and paramedic aircrew treated the patient on scene before accompanying him on his flight to hospital in Preston.

The flight took 13 minutes and the man was stable on arrival.
