A newly brewed beer has been named MBEer in honour of a prolific fundraiser who was awarded an MBE after raising more than £200,000 for charities.
The ale has been brewed to commemorate the achievement of Judy Kitching of Hutton Rudby, North Yorkshire, who received the MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.
Mrs Kitching holds regular fundraising events at her home at Sexhow Park Farm and will sell the beer at a forthcoming beer festival on August 31.
The hand crafted beer that was brewed at Truefitt in Middlesbrough, was an idea by Tony Devereux, from Devereux Transport, who named it MBEer as a tribute to the 64-year-old.
Mrs Kitching said: “I am overwhelmed by the gesture and I can confirm that it tastes great too.”
Mrs Kitching started supporting the charity 27 years ago after holding an annual fundraising concert in memory of her husband Jim who died, aged 38, after an accident on their farm.
The CornShed Charity Beer Festival, organised in conjunction with the Cleveland branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), will raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service and will feature 50 real ales on sale. More than 700 tickets have already been sold and the event is expected to sell out.
Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, said: “We all have a lot of affection for Judy here at GNAAS, she is one of our biggest supporters who has worked tirelessly for charity. We want to thank her once more for her continued support.”
