A 38-year-old man from Riding Mill was airlifted after a bus carrying nine children crashed on the A689 at Wallfoot, east of Carlisle, today.
The man was trapped in the mini-bus, which sustained significant damage in the impact.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service’s Pride of Cumbria aircraft responded to the incident. The aircraft and crew were called into action at 1.20pm.
Working alongside paramedics from North West Ambulance Service, the casualties at the scene were each assessed and treated.
The children had all sustained minor injuries, were able to travel to hospital by road.
The driver was freed from the vehicle and was flown to hospital with a non-life-threatening leg injury.
The flight took just five minutes.
*Elsewhere in Cumbria, a man was flown to hospital from Yad Moss ski centre following an accident on the slope. The Pride of Cumbria was also called to the M6 at Calthwaite where an HGV had crashed, very nearly falling over a bridge. The man was not seriously injured.
