VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help maintain the grounds at the region’s new air ambulance base.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service is moving to Urlay Nook, near Eaglescliffe, Stockton-on-Tees, later this spring.
The move will see the charity’s back-office functions from Darlington and Newton Aycliffe relocating to the new site, with the critical care team and aircraft currently based at Durham Tees Valley Airport moving later in the year.
The charity bought the new site off Elementis Chromium. It features established lawns, hedging and shrubbery that need ongoing maintenance.
Ben McWilliams, volunteer coordinator, said: “Volunteers already play a vital role in raising money for the charity and helping in the office, but we are now able to offer an opportunity to help keep our new base in tip-top condition.
“As with all volunteers, these individuals will play a vital role in keeping our service flying.”
The Ground Maintenance Volunteers are asked to pledge between two to five hours a week, depending on the season, and will be tasked with general grounds care, clearing weeds and maintaining pathways, mowing lawns and trimming bushes.
Grahame Pickering MBE, the charity’s chief executive, said: “Work is progressing to schedule and we are all looking forward to moving into our new home in the spring.
“Volunteers have always played a crucial role at the charity and that will continue in the new base – we look forward to welcoming some new recruits.”
The charity is only able to accept applications from over-18s.
