ONE of the country’s biggest companies has backed the region’s air ambulance service – and encouraged others to do the same.
Bosses at communications giant Everything Everywhere biked from their London headquarters to Paris, France, in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service, the charity which operates the Pride of Cumbria aircraft in Langwathby, near Penrith.
The firm, which runs Orange and T-Mobile, has so far raised £51,000 through individual donations and sponsorship.
The money will go to supporting GNAAS’ work across Cumbria, the North-East and North Yorkshire.
The 11-strong team completed the 278 mile journey within their target of 48 hours.
Head of PR Mat Sears, who took part, said: “We have national causes which we support regularly, but we wanted to do something for a smaller charity where we knew that the money will make a real difference.
“GNAAS is an amazing charity and thinking about what we were doing on the ride really got us through some difficult moments. It’s important that businesses get behind charities such as GNAAS. As this ride demonstrated, it really brought members of staff closer together while raising money for the cause.”
Mandy Drake, Deputy Director at GNAAS, who said: “The lengths that people go to in raising money for this charity never ceases to amaze us. We are extremely grateful to all involved in this effort. The money will pay for approximately twenty missions, each one of them potentially life-saving.”
