Help us raise the funds for paramedic Laura’s uniform

When you see our team’s iconic red uniform on scene, you know the patient is in safe hands… but kitting our team out in these essential uniforms isn’t cheap.

Every piece of clothing our doctors, paramedics, and pilots wear are thoughtfully chosen to prepare them for any situation. In fact, a few years back, we upgraded from orange to red flight suits to enhance their visibility and ensure they’re even better equipped on the scene.

Paramedic Laura recently joined our critical care team after several intense interviews and is now undergoing our rigorous training regime before becoming a fully-fledged member of our operations team… but now, we need to make sure she’s suited and booted, ready for action.

Our crew’s uniform costs a mega £5,087.19, which covers everything from knee pads to socks and a flight helmet.

But let’s break it down a little further for you…

Flight helmet – £2,228.36

The most expensive, yet arguably the most crucial part of our team’s uniform is the headgear.

Not only are flight helmets vital for keeping our team safe in the unlikely occasion they experience a bird strike, but they’re essential for communication, too.

Each helmet is also equipped with a headset, allowing our team to talk effectively while onboard the helicopter (which can get very loud!).

And once Laura passes a spot of training from our team, she’ll be helping to guide our pilots to the scene.

Flight top and trousers – £384

Now onto the most iconic part of our uniform… the flight suit. These suits don’t just look sharp, they play a vital role on scene by distinguishing our crew from other emergency services – critical when quick decisions are needed under pressure.

Designed to keep our team warm and equipped, they feature plenty of pockets, including one for an information card that helps calculate precise drug dosages based on a patient’s weight and age.

Made from durable, fire-retardant material, these suits offer protection in the unpredictable environments our team faces.

Boots – £150

Comfortable, durable, and built to endure the rugged terrain of the North – that’s why our critical care team rely on top-quality boots. We cover Cumbria’s mountainous terrain, making safe landing spots for the helicopter tricky – they could be miles away from the patient.

In these situations, a reliable pair of boots is crucial, supporting our paramedics and doctors as they hike long distances all while carrying the heavy critical care bags needed to save lives.

Waterproofs – £118.45

The British weather is famously unpredictable, and our team often find themselves rushing from one call-out to the next with little time to dry off or warm up. That’s why waterproof gear is essential for our crew, allowing them to stay focused on delivering life-saving care, no matter the conditions.

Whether trekking through rivers or navigating muddy terrains to reach a patient, the right waterproof equipment ensures our team is always prepared to face the elements while providing critical pre-hospital care.

Knee pads – £15

We need to keep those flight suits safe… hence the knee pads!

When caring for a patient outside of a hospital, our doctor and paramedic bring the care to them, regardless of whether they’re in bed, in a car, or on the floor – the trusty knee pads provide the support and comfort our team needs to work in any environment for as long as they need to, ensuring they can kneel and focus on saving lives.

Name strip and Velcro – £6.50

Name tags are key for easy identification. They allow other emergency services on scene to quickly recognise the crew on shift, and they also help patients feel more at ease by knowing the names of those providing their care.

Additional – £2,184.88

And all the rest! From jackets to gilets to keep our crew warm, to t-shirts for the warmer months, and a bag to stash water and other essentials while on call.
