Celebrating February’s Fundraising Heroes

February may have been a short month, but it didn’t stop our fundraising heroes from making the most of each and every day – we certainly felt the love!

From businesses generating funds in memory of an esteemed colleague to a duo rowing the Atlantic Ocean and a locksmith giving us some keys free of charge – our supporters’ fundraising knows no bounds.

So, let’s take a closer look at what our fundraising heroes have been up to…

Going the extra mile

In early February, the committed team at Patrick James Solutions Mortgage and Protection in Appleby decided to encourage the community to jump on a treadmill and complete some miles for charity.

The team aimed to secure 118 miles within a 24-hour time period – we feel tired just thinking about it!

Paramedic Jamie and fundraiser Deborah even jumped on the treadmill to help complete the challenge; we love this unique and collaborative way of raising funds.

From one race to another

Our fundraising team had the pleasure of meeting up with Haltwhistle Young Farmers, who dusted off their wheelbarrows to take part in a wheelbarrow race last year.

Not only does it sound like a whole load of fun, but the youngsters raised over £1,000 for our life-saving service – who said charity work was boring?!

Looking after our team’s wellbeing

Sometimes it’s not only monetary donations that make a difference, but also donations of time.

With that being said, we’d like to thank the Mental Health First Aid team from Newcastle Building Society, who kindly offered to help and support our new mental health champions, who nominated themselves to support GNAAS’ wider team.

Thank you for stopping by and working alongside our team, to enable them to give the best support possible!

Ladies in pink!

Fundraiser Deborah had the pleasure of stopping by Silloth on Solway Golf Club for a cheque presentation. The Lady Captains kindly chose us as their charity of the year, so it was an honour to catch up with them and accept their £1,200 in donations.

Getting crafty

Christmas may feel like forever ago, but some fundraising heroes used the holiday to generate funds for our charity, including Nateby & Wharton Women’s Institute, who sold their handmade goodies at local craft stalls during the festive period.

£510 was given to our life-saving service because of their efforts! Huge thank you to all of those crafty ladies out there.

Give us a song

Whitehaven’s very own Male Voice Choir presented us with a cheque for £1,000! Recently, they gathered in two local supermarkets in West Cumbria to raise money.

Sadly, they didn’t give us a song when they visited our base; maybe next time, lads?

Memory walk

North East-based Nexus has supported our organisation for a couple of years, and the team even elected us as their Charity of the Year in previous years.

Sadly, one of their team members, Wayne, found himself in need of our service during a walk with his colleagues; and despite our team’s best efforts, he passed away.

Wayne’s family and colleagues have since been fundraising to keep our team responding to missions by taking on an In Memory walk in his honour, raising £1,800 – this one was emotional.

Wow, how incredible are February’s Fundraising Heroes? Our supporters never fail to amaze us with their kindness and support.
