Here are some of the incidents we attended this weekend:
We were called on Saturday at midday after a diver from Darlington got into difficulty off the coast of South Shields.
The man was suffering from a decompression illness and required treatment at the hyperbaric unit in Hull. He was flown south, down the East Coast, under constant observation from our doctor-led team.
The flight took 50 minutes and the man was stable on arrival.
At 4.12pm we were called to assist the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) near Grasmere where a paraglider had crashed. A man, believed to be in his 50s, was assessed and treated by the GNAAS paramedic and doctor team before being taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary by a NWAS road crew.
On Sunday at 12.40pm we were called to assist the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team at Helvellyn where a man, believed to be in his 50s, was suffering from chest pains. He was assessed and treated by the GNAAS paramedic and doctor team before being winched and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by a coastguard helicopter. He arrived in a stable condition.
