A MAN who suffered a heart attack while playing golf has thanked the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) for coming to his rescue.
Keith Ivison, 75, from Maryport, was playing at his local golf club on April 8 2017 when he suddenly began to feel ill.
He said: “I was on the 5th hole and I didn’t feel so good. I then realised what was happening, that I was having a heart attack. The guys at the club phoned 999 for the ambulance and they came straight away.”
North West Ambulance Service and the GNAAS paramedic and doctor team were called to Maryport Golf Club to assess and treat Mr Ivison.
He was then airlifted by the charity to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for ongoing treatment.
Mr Ivison said: “GNAAS were really good, they talked me through it and calmed me down. I am very grateful for who looked after me. I was in the hospital for four days but I’m all recovered now and I’m back to playing golf.”
Maryport Golf Club will now host its annual Pro-Am competition as a fundraiser for GNAAS to show their support and gratitude for the service the charity provides.
Mr Ivison will be one of the many golfers taking part in the 18-hole competition, which includes a two course meal.
The competition takes places on June 2 2018 at Maryport Golf Club, Bank End, Maryport.
Entry is £240 per team, with teams of three being assigned a professional.
