Incident round-up: September 2 and 3

Yesterday (Sunday) at 11.24am, we were called to Kirkstone Pass in the Lake District to assist the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) after a male, believed to be in his 40s, had fallen from his bike while taking part in a triathlon. The patient sustained chest and shoulder injuries and was treated at the scene by NWAS paramedics and the GNAAS doctor-led trauma team. He was flown to Royal Preston Hospital and the flight took 24 minutes. The patient arrived in a stable condition.

The team was then tasked to the M6 near Lancaster. The call came in at 1.30pm to assist NWAS after a male, believed to be in his 30s, had fallen from a moving vehicle. The patient sustained abdominal injuries, a shoulder injury and a head wound. He was treated at the scene by NWAS paramedics and the GNAAS doctor and paramedic team before being flown to Royal Preston Hospital. The flight took seven minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.

On Saturday at 1.50pm we were called to Ings, Kendal, to assist NWAS after a male, believed to be in his 40s, was involved in a collision between a motorcycle and a car. The patient sustained back and rib injuries and was assessed by the GNAAS doctor-led trauma team before being taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary by the NWAS road crew.

At 4pm on Saturday we were called to assist the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) at Rowlands Gill, Tyne and Wear, where a male, believed to be in his 40s, had fallen off a ladder. The patient was treated and assessed by both NEAS and the GNAAS doctor and paramedic team before being taken to hospital by the NEAS road crew.

On Saturday at 6.20pm we were called to reports of a collision between a cyclist and a car in Milnthorpe, South Cumbria. A male believed to be in his 40s, sustained back and rib injuries and was assessed by the GNAAS doctor and paramedic team. Thankfully, the patient’s injuries were found not to be as serious as first thought and he was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary by NWAS.
