Round-up: Busy weekend in Cumbria


Our team in Cumbria have had a busy weekend. Here are some of the incidents they have attended since Friday:


On Friday, at 11.34am, we were called to Kirkoswald, Eden Valley, Cumbria, where a man had arrived at a doctor’s surgery having earlier been impaled on a tractor spike while working on a nearby farm. The man, believed to be in his 60s, had suffered chest and lung injuries and was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The flight took around 18 minutes.

At 1.40pm we were called to junction 40 of the M6 at Penrith, where a woman, believed in her 50s, had been injured in a three vehicle collision. She had sustained potential spinal injuries and was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. The flight took around 25 minutes and she was stable on arrival.

On Saturday, at 3.30pm, we were called to Bassenthwaite in the Lake District where a man, thought to be aged in his 50s, had suffered cardiac problems while cycling. He was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary. The flight took around 12 minutes.

Later on Saturday, at 5.18pm, the team were called to the A66 near Scales where a male motorcyclist, thought to be 19-years-old, was injured in a collision with a car. He had sustained multiple injuries and was flown to hospital in Preston. He arrived in a serious but stable condition after a flight of around 30 minutes.

On Sunday, at 3.20pm, we were called to Whitehaven to help North West Ambulance Service after a man was injured in a motorcycling incident. He was treated on scene before being flown to the Cumberland Infirmary in a stable condition. The flight took around 15 minutes. The man has since been in touch to thank GNAAS for their help during the incident. He said he is recovering well.
