Our Langwathby-based crew attended three incidents yesterday (Thursday 22 June).
At 2.30pm we were called to Hawkshead, Cumbria, to assist a 32-year-old male who was suffering with chest pains, thought to be non-life-threatening. He was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment. The flight took 14 minutes and he arrived in a stable condition.
At 4.25pm we were called to assist a paraglider who had crashed on Melmerby Fell in Cumbria. The woman, in her 60s, suffered minor back, neck, chest and ankle injuries. We airlifted the patient to our Langwathby base where she was taken by the North West Ambulance Service, who transported her to the Cumberland Infirmary by road.
At 7.20pm we flew to Caton, Lancaster, to help a 76-year-old male who had fallen 15 feet down a river bank. The patient had suffered serious head, neck, chest and pelvic injuries. We treated him on scene, before airlifting him to the Major Trauma Centre at Royal Preston Hospital. The journey took 18 minutes. He arrived in a serious but stable condition.
