The Great North Air Ambulance Service attended the following incidents this weekend:
At 13.25 on Saturday, our Pride of Cumbria aircraft and crew were called to Sedbergh to assist a North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) crew with a female in her 70s who was suffering from a heart attack. She was assessed and treated at scene before being flown to the Coronary Care Unit at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. The flight took just 18 minutes.
At 15.15 on Saturday, we flew to help a male in his 30s who had sustained possible head and pelvic injuries in a road traffic collision near Stanhope. A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) crew had requested our attendance due to the nature of the injuries and the man’s condition on scene. He was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, in 13 minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.
The Pride of Cumbria and crew were called to an incident at Ambleside to help a 48-year-old male who had suffered a head injury, at 17.15 on Saturday. The patient was assessed at the scene by the doctor-led trauma team, before being transported to Furness General Hospital in Barrow by the NWAS land crew after his injury was deemed non-life-threatening.
At 10.45 on Sunday, we were called to Cumwhinton, near Carlisle, to assist a crew from NWAS with a female in her 40s who had fallen from a horse and sustained a serious head injury. She was assessed and treated on scene by the doctor-led trauma team before being airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in 20 minutes. She arrived in a stable condition.
At 14.50 on Sunday, we were called to assist a NEAS crew with a male in his 80s who was found collapsed at his home in Newton Aycliffe. The patient suffered life-threating head and neck injuries, and after assessment from our doctor-led trauma team he was placed in an induced coma. He was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in ten minutes. He arrived in a critical condition.
