The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to a gym in Barnard Castle where a 17-year-old male was in cardiac arrest. The GNAAS crew was tasked to the incident at 3.30pm yesterday.

The GNAAS crew was tasked to the incident at 3.30pm yesterday. The doctor and paramedic team placed the patient into an induced coma and stabilised him before he was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for further treatment. He arrived in a critical condition.
The flight took nine minutes; by road this would have taken around 50 minutes.
