A JUNIOR doctor has backed a campaign to support the region’s air ambulance after completing a cross-continent cycling challenge in aid of the charity.
Jenni Whittaker’s 500-mile journey began in Rotterdam before heading through Holland, Belgium and France.
The 27-year-old from Newburn, Tyne and Wear, averaged 70 miles a day and completed the trip in just ten days.
Jenni, who works at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, said she is now backing the National Air Ambulance Week campaign because of her personal experience of working alongside the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
She said: “I work predominately in the Trauma Intensive Care Ward, so obviously, quite a lot of our patients are brought in by the air ambulance. I see what they do, I see how they do such a good job each day.”
GNAAS is encouraging supporters to get involved in donating £3 a month through their mobile text giving service during National Air Ambulance Week, which runs from September 19 to 25. The annual event is aimed at raising awareness and boosting the fundraising efforts of the UK’s air ambulances.
