Ron Godfrey from Millom, Cumbria, joined GNAAS as a collections volunteer at the start of this year after retiring.
He is involved in emptying collection tins for the charity at regular intervals throughout the year but has also tried his hand at other fundraising activities which are available to volunteers.
He said: “After I retired I was looking for voluntary work and because I live in Cumbria, which is a rural area, I understand the importance of GNAAS. I believe without it we’d really be in trouble, so it’s an essential service. I’d raised money for them in the past so I decided to take it one step further and volunteer for them.”
Despite initially coming on board as a collections volunteer, Ron has taken the opportunity to also attend bucket collections, cheque presentations and dress up as our mascot Miles the bear.
In addition to this he will be leading at an event this summer.
He said: “By volunteering I’m able to get out and about and visit different places, meet new people, socialise, but most importantly do something worthwhile which contributes to a lifesaving service.”
