Two jobs yesterday for the aircrews with jobs in Cowgill and Seahouses.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called yesterday, at 12.35pm, to Cowgill, Cumbria, where a man had crashed his car into a brick wall. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew assessed and treated the patient, who is believed to be in his eighties and from the local area, for serious injuries with assistance from North West Ambulance Service paramedics. He was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital in a flight that took just 15 minutes, this same journey by road would have taken around one hour and ten minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.
Later yesterday, at 2.30pm, GNAAS was called to Seahouses, Northumberland, where a diver was suffering from the bends. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew assisted paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service in treating the woman. The 49-year-old, believed to be from Blackpool, was found to require medical care at a hyperbaric chamber. She was loaded into the helicopter before being flown to the nearest such facility which is in Hull. The flight took just one hour and ten minutes. This same journey by road ambulance would have taken around three hours and 20 minutes. She arrived in a serious but non-life threatening condition.
