At 12.30pm yesterday, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Crook, County Durham, to treat an injured motocross rider.
The male, in his thirties and from the Redcar area, had fallen from his bike and sustained suspected pelvic and leg injuries. He was stabilised by the GNAAS crew before being flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The flight took ten minutes and the patient was stable on arrival.
In Cumbria, the team were called to help Keswick Mountain Rescue Team with a man who had fallen down a steep rocky slope close to the summit of Catbells, near Keswick.
The call was received at 1pm. The man had come to rest in an inaccesible area. The GNAAS crew treated the man at the scene before he was transferred to the aircraft over difficult terrain by the Mountain Rescue Team experts. He was then flown to hospital in Carlisle for further treatment. He had sustained head injuries that were found to be non-life threatening.
The flight from scene to hospital took 13 minutes and the patient was stable on arrival.
