On Friday at 2.15pm, the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to Hartside Pass, Cumbria, where a 56-year-old male motorcyclist was involved in a road traffic collision. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew assessed and treated the man for leg injuries before he was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
On Saturday at 2pm, GNAAS was called to Blease Fell near Threlkeld, Cumbria, where a 66-year-old man from Newcastle had collapsed in cardiac arrest while out walking. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew treated the patient, whose condition was described as life threatening, with assistance from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT). The man was flown to the specialist heart centre at the Cumberland Infirmary in a flight that took just ten minutes. He arrived in a stable condition. GNAAS would like to thank the efforts of KMRT for the teamwork during the rescue.
Yesterday at 10.30am, we were called to Scafell Pike, Lake District, where a 56-year-old male walker was suffering from chest pains while out walking. The GNAAS aircrew treated the patient before he was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary. He arrived in a stable condition.
Yesterday afternoon, GNAAS was called at 2.10pm to Shildon, County Durham, where a male believed to be in his 40s was suffering from chest, abdomen and leg injuries. He was treated on scene by the GNAAS doctor-led aircrew and paramedics from North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) before being flown to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. He arrived in a serious condition.
Later on Sunday, at 3pm, we were called to Duddo, Northumberland, where there had been a two car road traffic collision. GNAAS worked alongside NEAS in treating a 70-year-old man before he was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, in a flight that took 22 minutes. He arrived in a critical condition.
