Supporters can take on one of England’s longest lakes and one of its highest peaks to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
The charity – which operates three helicopters including the Pride of Cumbria – has teamed up with outdoor activity provider Distant Horizons to offer the Ullswater Challenge, taking place on July 10.
The challenge involves an initial eight miles of kayaking towards Glenridding before the ascent of Helvellyn, via Striding Edge. Participants will then descend the fell via Swirral Edge before paddling back across Ullswater to Pooley Bridge.
Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, said: “The challenge is a great way to experience the natural beauty of the Lake District as well as pushing yourself to the maximum level, whilst raising funds for GNAAS, a charity wholly dependent on public donations. Last year we had individuals as well as businesses taking part, and everyone had a blast.”
The challenge costs a non-refundable £60 to enter with a pledge to raise a minimum of £200 for the charity.
The entry price includes all use of equipment provided by Distant Horizons including all kayaking equipment and walking equipment.
The outdoor activity experts do however recommend that you bring your own walking boots and have had some experience of hill walking prior to the event.
