A round-up of incidents from the weekend.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to High Rigg near St John’s in the Vale, Cumbria, at 12.50pm on Saturday where a man had fallen while walking and suffered serious head injuries. The GNAAS doctor-led aircrew arrived on scene, working alongside Keswick Mountain Rescue Team in treating the patient before the 80-year-old was flown to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. During the flight, the man was found to need a blood transfusion. He was administered one unit of blood before arriving at the hospital in a stable condition.
Later on Saturday, at 3.30pm, we were called to an incident involving a 47-year-old motorcyclist near the village of Alston, Cumbria. The patient was treated on scene by the GNAAS doctor-led aircrew before being flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, in a flight that took 15 minutes. He arrived in a stable condition.
