Go golfing for life-saving aircrew

GOLFERS who admire the heroics of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) experts have the opportunity to enter a tournament in County Durham to support the life-saving service. The flying doctors and paramedics are heavily dependent on donations and race into action to rescue severely ill or injured people more than 1,000 times a year. Golfers are asked to enter as teams of four in the South Moor Charity Shield on May 27, the club lady captain’s day. The beguiling course at South Moor in Stanley was created by the man who designed Augusta National, Yorkshireman Dr Alister MacKenzie. Teams can be men or ladies or any combination of either and entry costs £60 per fourball. Tee times are 7:00am to 3:00pm and entry covers a buffet and disco. South Moor ladies’ captain Pam Tate, who chose the charity for her tournament, said: “GNAAS rely on public generosity to function and survive and their care is of the highest standard as well as pioneering.” Entries should be made by post to Pam Tate, Springwell, Langley Park, Co Durham DH7 9YB.
